About JP Dempsey's
JP Dempsey's first day of business was November 11, 1992 founded by the original partners John Panza and Paul Kaplan. J.P Dempsey’s has served the greater New Haven area for the past 19 years and has become renowned for its great food and friendly atmosphere. A Fun Pub with Great Grub perfectly describes this family run tavern with Chef John Panza overseeing the day to day operations of the restaurant. John has been a chef for 35 years and has created an extensive menu and also incorporates 13 to 17 daily specials. Truly a family affair, John's daughter, niece and sister have worked in the family business for the last 10 to 19 years respectively. One distinguishing characteristic of J.P Dempsey's is the serving of a basket of peanuts on every table and the slogan of "Please Throw the Shells on the Floor" on the shirts of all the staff. At the end of a busy night, the floors are covered with peanut shells and the crowd is reluctant to leave their neighborhood "home away from home".
"Our kitchen is open later than any other in the neighborhood."
We're always happy to serve you in any way possible. Ask and you shall receive.
Most recently J.P. Dempsey has added a new member to the family with former Guilford resident Jim Valente and wife Arleen Valente buying the business on June 6, 2011. "We loved everything about JP Dempsey's and wanted to keep it just as it is". With that in mind we wanted to ensure that all the staff stayed on at the restaurant to provide the same level of great service and great food that the long time customer base was accustomed to. With that accomplished Jim and Arleen have added some creature comforts requested by Dempsey’s customers such as a new air conditioning system, 5 new flat screen TV's and a variety of value added food and drink specials to enhance the "Fun Pub with Great Grub" dining experience.
We are all looking forward to another great 20 years and hope to see you soon at JP Dempsey's!
